Actors who left directors high and dry
Last night, we told you about Chitrangda Singh storming out of Kushan Nandy’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz (HOT BUZZ: Director orders Chitrangda 'Get on top of Nawaz, Sex Karo', Actress quits the film, June 12th).

The actress quit the film in a huff after Kushan, during her intimate scene with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, shouted, “Chitrangda, you ought to get literally on top of Nawaz. Tange ragdo and sex karo.”  As a woman, she felt humiliated and decided to opt out of the project.

Come to think of it, B-Town is not new to actors/actresses leaving projects mid-way. Examples are in abundance of stars having a change of heart after signing on a movie. There have also been cases of artistes calling it quits right in the middle of the shoot for various reasons. Let’s look at some examples:

ALIA SAYS NO MORE RAABTA

In June last year, Alia Bhatt opted out of Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta. The actress had allotted dates to the movie, but when it was time for the film to roll, she had a change of heart (Err.Alia Walks Out Of Homis Film At The Last Minute, June 2nd).

Alia’s decision was prompted by her mentor Karan Johar offering her the lead role in Shuddhi. (It’s another story that the film never took off).

Anyway, the Kapoor & Sons actress’ walk-out left the film’s hero, Sushant Singh Rajput, furious. He even took to social media to vent out his anger (Sushant Is Furious Over Alias Exit From Raabta, June 3rd).

Kriti Sanon will be seen romancing Sushant in the film now.

KAREENA BOWS OUT OF RAM-LEELA

Kareena Kapoor has a long list of movies she quit. In 2012, she walked out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram-Leela despite signing the contract. The decision was prompted by SLB’s demand for more than 100 days, which the actress had originally agreed upon.

REKHA LEAVES FITOOR

All hell broke loose early last year when Rekha walked out of Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor after shooting for 80% of the film. Reason: After seeing the rushes of the film, she didn’t like the way she looked.

Madam Re wanted to look glamorous throughout and did not want any grey hair or dishevelled appearance in the film. But the demand couldn’t be met, because her character Begum Hazrat Jaan (the film is based on Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations and Hazrat Jaan the desi version of Miss Havisham) is supposed to look distraught and repentant towards the end of the film.

Finally, the role was played to perfection by Tabu.

SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT WALKS OUT OF HALF GIRLFRIEND

Late last year, Mohit Suri announced Sushant Singh Rajput as the male lead of Half Girlfriend. But within a month, the actor opted out of it.

Trouble started when Dinesh Vijan approached Sushant for Raabta and demanded the same dates from him. Saying he had verbally committed to Dinesh long ago, the Kai Po Che actor excused himself. The role is now being played by Arjun Kapoor.

ABHISHEK BACHCHAN NOT GAME FOR ANY HERA PHERI (3)

Abhishek Bachchan shocked a lot of people when he announced that he is no longer a part of Hera Pheri 3, which is being directed by Neeraj Vora (Abhishek Bachchan walks out of Hera Pheri 3, May 18th).

Seems, AB Jr left the film’s Dubai schedule in a huff, without shooting for a single scene, when he learnt that Vora did not have a script in place.

GOVINDA WALKS OUT OF JAGGA JASOOS

Govinda, who was roped in to play Ranbir Kapoor’s foster father in Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos, left the project despite shooting for the film.
Soon after the actor walked out last year, rumours had surfaced about creative differences between him and the filmmaker. Kahaani actor Saswata Chatterjee has now stepped into Chi Chi’s shoes.

NIMRAT KAUR REFUSES TO BAT FOR AZHAR

Nimrat Kaur backed she opted out of Tony D’Souza’s Azhar barely a few weeks before the film went on floors (Now, Nimrat Walks Out Of Azhar!, June 14th ).

The airlift actress had committed verbally, but didn’t like her role once she read the script. She felt that the film was entirely from the cricketer’s perspective and bowed out.

FARHAN AKHTAR NOT INTERESTED IN RAEES

Though Farhan Akhtar was the first choice to play the second lead in Shah Rukh Khan's Raees, the actor opted out of the project just a few weeks before the shooting began (Why Did Farhan Akhtar Walk Out Of Shah Rukh Khan's Raees?, Nov 19th ).

The Dil Dhadakne Do actor later said that he didn’t want to play a cop right after Wazir (he played a cop in the Bejoy Nambiar film). The films were being shot almost consecutively and Farhan didn’t want to do 2 back-to-back cop roles.

The makers finally zeroed in on Nawazuddin Siddiqui to play the part.

RITEISH DESHMUKH SAYS ‘NO’ TO AKSHAY KUMAR

Riteish Deshmukh and Akshay Kumar may be good friends, but last year, he walked out of a film being produced by Akki and Ashwini Yardi.

The film, directed by Sanjay Jadhav, was supposed to be a biopic on Dada Kondke, a veteran Marathi actor famous for his double-entendre dialogues.

Riteish was uncomfortable mouthing too much sex lingo and quit the film (Riteish Deshmukh Walks Out Of Akshay Kumar's Film, Aug 13th ).
